This year, several new features have been introduced to enhance the pilgrimage experience:

  • Daily Live Aarti: Devotees can watch the daily morning and evening live Aarti from the Holy Cave online.
  • Standardized Government Rates: The government has set standardized rates for services such as pony rides, porters, palkis, and accommodation to ensure fair pricing.

  • Advance Registration: Registration for the Yatra began on April 15, 2024, through designated bank branches across various states and online.

Registration Process

Advance Registration

  • Start Date: April 15, 2024.
  • Offline Mode: Register through designated bank branches (SBI, JK Bank, Yes Bank, PNB).
  • Online Mode: Register online on the official Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board website.

Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC)

  • Obtain a CHC from authorized doctors or institutions. This certificate is mandatory for registration.
  • CHC in English and Hindi: Certificates are available in both languages.

Group Registration

  • Guidelines for group registrations are available on the official website.

NRI/Ex-India Pilgrims and Foreign Nationals

How to Reach the Amarnath Shrine

The Holy Amarnathji Shrine is located in the Kashmir Himalayas and can be reached via two main routes:

  1. Pahalgam Route (32 km)

    • Base Camp: Nunwan, near Pahalgam in Anantnag District, approximately 90 km from Srinagar.
    • Access Control Gate: Chandanwari, around 12 km from Nunwan.
  2. Baltal Route (14 km)

    • Base Camp: Baltal, near Sonamarg in Ganderbal District, approximately 95 km from Srinagar.
    • Access Control Gate: Domail, around 2.5 km from Baltal.

Traditional Routes

From Jammu

  1. Jammu - Pahalgam - Holy Cave

    • Jammu to Pahalgam (315 km): Travel by taxi or buses available at the Tourist Reception Centre, J&K Government, Raghunath Bazaar, or by air to Srinagar followed by road to Pahalgam.
    • Pahalgam to Holy Cave: Key points include Chandanwari, Pissu Top, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni.
  2. Jammu - Baltal - Holy Cave

    • Jammu to Baltal via Srinagar
    • Baltal to Holy Cave (14 km steep trek): Suitable for the very fit, with options to hire ponies or palkis.

Accommodation

  • Tented accommodations on a rental basis are available at various Yatra camps such as Panchtarni, Sheshnag, Nunwan, and Baltal.

Langar (Free Food)

  • Various societies and NGOs offer free food, drinking water, and refreshments at different locations along the Yatra routes.

Medical Facilities

  • The Health and Medical Education Department, along with NGOs, the Army, and CAPFs, sets up base hospitals, medical aid centers, oxygen booths, and emergency services.

Cloak Room

  • Cloakroom facilities are available at various camps and the Holy Cave.

Parking Facility

  • Parking for two-wheelers, LMVs, and HMVs is available at Baltal on a rental basis.

Telecom Services

  • BSNL, JIO, and AIRTEL provide network connectivity in the Yatra area. Pre-paid or pre-on-post SIM cards can be purchased at various locations, including base camps.

Pony/Pithu/Palki

  • Rental services for ponies, pithus, and palkis are available at various Yatra camps and digital prepaid counters.

Do's & Don'ts for a Safe Yatra

Do's:

  • Wear the RFID card around your neck during the entire Yatra.
  • Carry your RFID card at all times.
  • Ensure you have collected your RFID card from designated centers after biometric authentication.
  • Obtain a valid CHC before registering.
  • Register through authorized channels and carry necessary documents.
  • Prepare physically by walking, exercising, and hydrating well.
  • Wear proper gear including shoes and woollen clothes.
  • Travel in groups and keep porters/horses/ponies in sight.
  • Follow the designated track and avoid shortcuts.
  • Seek medical help immediately if feeling unwell.

Don'ts:

  • Do not undertake the Yatra without proper preparation and gear.
  • Do not consume alcohol, caffeinated drinks, or smoke.
  • Do not litter or pollute the Yatra area.
  • Do not overexert yourself beyond normal capacity.
  • Do not ignore symptoms of high-altitude sickness.
